Meet Michael Dane, SJS ‘17, HCHS ‘21

Michael Dane, SJS ‘17 is a member of the Holy Cross High School Class of 2021. During his time at St. John School, Michael was known as ‘the mayor’, a term affectionately given to him by students and teachers alike for his community-minded ways and his leadership. Michael could be counted on to volunteer his time to the school, the parish and the local community. When he wasn’t a competitor on the playing field, he was certainly the loudest voice in the stands cheering for the Eagles. His school spirit and his volunteer leadership inspired many students to join him in supporting local causes and supporting St. John School.

At Holy Cross High School, Michael has distinguished himself as a leader and a loyal Crusader. His actions continue to embody the St. John School motto - For God and Country.

Michael was elected Freshman Class Vice President and Sophomore Class Secretary. He volunteers as a HCHS Tour Guide and regularly participates in fundraising and admissions events for Holy Cross. He is passionate about politics, government, business and family and is a member of both the Italian Club and the Business Club. Michael also served as a campaign worker for Representative Joe Polletta during his 2018 election campaign for Connecticut State Representative for the 68th General Assembly District in the Connecticut House of Representatives. His warm and approachable style makes him a great collaborator and a loyal friend.

Serving others continues to be a focus for Michael and he travels to different states, Virginia in 2018 and Pennsylvania in 2019) in the early summer to volunteer for different groups through Holy Cross.

Athletics have also become important to Michael as both a competitor and a fan. He ran cross country at St. John School and elevated his performances as a member of the HCHS XC and track teams. In 2018, he earned “All Academic Team” from the Naugatuck Valley League Coaches and the “Most Improved Runner” award for Holy Cross’s Boys XC team.

  • My experience at St. John School included strong academics that benefitted me in high school. I made many friends at St. John, and I was taught how to do my best in everything I strive for, as well as how to be a strong leader. In 8th grade I was taught literature by Mrs. Garrity. The course was very challenging, however I feel very prepared and organized in high school, and I realize how much that class and my teachers truly made a difference in my academic performance today.
