St. John School Clubs

At St. John School, students are encouraged to participate in the many extracurricular activities that are offered throughout the year. Our club electives provide the chance to get creative in specific skill sets, ranging from writing to coding!

Club Offerings

Student Newspaper - Eagle Press - and Podcast Team - Eagle Eye Podcast

The Eagle Press is a great club for aspiring writers, photographers and graphic designers! Managed by students in Grades 5-8, this St. John School newspaper club provides students with the opportunity to learn about publishing a digital newspaper.

Students meet weekly to develop ideas for the paper, assign different feature roles, write the articles, photograph events, and interview people for the news. Students also work on the digital layout of the newspaper and input articles and visuals. They learn each step from idea through publication—gaining great skills in the art of journalism. Younger students are invited to contribute artwork and writing to the newspaper.

The Eagle Eye Podcast Team is a place for middle school students who are interested in communication and tech to meet to brainstorm, write, record and produce this student run podcast about a variety of topics.  Students meet weekly to develop content for the podcast.  Each podcast takes between 4-5 weeks to produce.  Students write and record their work, conduct and record interviews, develop and record polls and opinion surveys, and add humor and creativity using this popular form of communication.

First LEGO League, Junior

Available for students in Grades 2 & 3, First LEGO League, Jr. Club meets after school to explore and discover real-world math and science.

Students get the chance to design and build a challenge-related model using LEGO components, and they learn the value of working cooperatively with others as a team. Get inspired to be science and technology leaders, build confidence, and have fun!

Robotics VEX-IQ League

The VEX-IQ Robotics Club at St. John School is available for students in middle school who would like to get some hands-on robotic design experience. Students learn the fundamentals of the Robot C programming language, gaining engineering skills in an engaging environment.

Mapped to national standards, this club focuses on creativity, problem-solving, teamwork and leadership, and participating students attend competition events with their team—on a local, state, national and international level. St. John currently offers 2 competition robots.
