Food Allergy Alert 2016-2017

We must do all we can to provide our students with a safe learning environment. Food allergies can be life threatening . Strict avoidance is the only way to prevent an allergic reaction.. Skin contact or inhalation can be enough to cause a reaction in some cases. We request that all families be keenly aware of any food placed in your child’s daily snack or lunch, in any form, which could cause an allergic reaction to other students. Please reinforce with your child that students are not allowed to share snacks or lunches for the above reasons.

In an effort to allow students with allergies to participate fully in special class activities, we also ask that you do not send in any foods that contain known allergens for shared birthday treats or holiday parties. Ingredient lists from original packaging must be supplied to the nurse for approval before entering the classroom. Homemade foods must include a label for every ingredient used in the recipe including oil, decorating icing, sprinkles, etc....

Also, please read labels carefully and avoid purchasing products that have the possibility of cross contamination. Foods processed in plants or stores that also make products which contain peanuts and tree nuts are to be avoided.

Any questions or concerns may be directed to the school nurse. For the safety of our students, your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
