The mission of the SJS Home and School Association is to develop programs, opportunities, and funding to support and connect the school community.
St. John the Evangelist School is both blessed and enriched through parent participation!
We hope you will consider volunteering at one of the Home and School Association (HSA) events this year. There are several different programs available for you to consider. They include:
Silent Auction: The annual Silent Auction is a major fundraiser, held in late autumn. The evening features a buffet, open bar, fabulous auction items and a dessert auction. Volunteers are needed to chair the event, to recruit sponsors, solicit auction items, promote the event, sell tickets, staff the evening (bidding, check out), set up, and clean up.
SCRIPS: The Scrips program allows participants to buy gift cards from retailers and service companies throughout the United States through the school. Volunteers coordinate the orders for submission each week.
Yankee Candle: The Yankee Candle fundraiser is an in-school sale of Yankee Candle products. Volunteers are needed to chair the event, to coordinate the sales, collect and tally orders, and distribute orders after school on a selected date.
Lyman Orchard Pies: Each year, just in time for Thanksgiving our school sells delicious frozen pies from Lyman Orchards. Volunteers are needed to chair the event, to coordinate the sales, collect and tally orders, and distribute orders after school on a selected date.
Wreath Sale: The H.S.A. offers fresh, beautiful Christmas wreaths for sale during Thanksgiving weekend at the church. The wreath sale is a fun way to contribute your time and get into the holiday spirit. Volunteers are needed to chair the event, to sell wreaths after masses on selected dates.
Secret Santa Shopping Day: The Secret Santa in-school shopping day is a great way for SJS students to do their family Christmas shopping! The gym is set-up with a wide selection of modestly priced gifts for the children to purchase. Volunteers are needed to chair the event, to help with pricing and set up prior to the shopping day, and to assist the children with shopping, wrapping and check out on the day of the event.
Book Fair: St. John the Evangelist School holds a Scholastic Book Fair each year to promote reading. Scholastic provides a wide variety of books for sale during a two-day event held in the gym. Volunteers are needed pre-event to coordinate and set-up, and also to assist with sales on the event date.
Father-Daughter Dance: Our annual Father-Daughter Dance is a very special evening for dads and their daughters to have a night out together. Granddad’s, or uncles or big brothers are also welcome to be the escort for the evening if a dad is not able to attend. Volunteers are needed to chair the event, coordinate the event, bake, decorate the gym, and sell corsages, and act as hostesses for the evening.
Spirit Day: Every year St. John the Evangelist School takes a school-wide field trip to Quassy Amusement Park for a day of rides, sports, food, and fun. Volunteers are needed to chair the event, to coordinate the event and volunteer on the day of the activity to manage a game or chaperone a class through their activity schedule.
Eagle Golf Tournament: The annual Eagle Golf Tournament is held each spring at a nearby course. Golfers of all levels are welcome and many alumni and parents reconnect at this event. The day ends with a festive dinner of golfing stories and a raffle. Volunteers are needed to chair the event, promote the event, encourage foursomes, obtain raffle prizes, and assist during the tournament.
